Dental Check up

Dental checkups are similar to physicals; only it's for your gums, teeth, and overall oral health. During the appointment, the dentist and hygienist will look for cavities, gum disease, and signs of oral cancer. The hygienist will also clean your teeth.

The dentist will also examine your neck, head, face, and throat for diseases like oral cancer.

Next, your dentist will create a comprehensive plan for your oral health.

Teeth Cleaning

If your teeth and gums are healthy, a hygienist will clean your teeth. Plaque and tartar will be gently removed from your teeth and beneath your gum line. Then, your teeth will be flossed to any last bits of plaque and tartar. Lastly, each tooth will be polished.

Scheduling

The American Dental Association recommends people have their teeth cleaned twice a year. Regular appointments are essential in removing tartar before they harden and become plaque. Plaque is a dangerous oral bacteria that can cause gum disease, cavities, and other health problems. Tartar also causes bad breath.

Regular dental checkups also are an opportunity to spot oral cancer and other oral diseases early. By diagnosing and treating early, you can avoid costly, painful situations down the road.
